As you read, ask, “Why was it important for Theodore to ask first?” or “What did he do to help make things right?”
Practice permission language during everyday play: “May I use this?” “Can I have a turn when you are finished?” and “Is it okay if I borrow it?” If your child makes a mistake with someone’s belongings, guide them to return the item, name what happened, apologize, and ask how they can help. Reinforce respectful choices with words like, “You asked first,” “You listened to their answer,” or “Your apology helped repair the hurt.”
