Caring for Others With Empathy and Teamwork
A welcoming temporary home begins with noticing what someone needs
When Coach Hopper’s little lost pet needs somewhere safe to stay, Fuzzi and Gram notice its needs and invite neighbors to help. Their caring teamwork shows children that welcoming someone can include listening, sharing, and creating a comfortable space. As you read, ask, “What did the pet need to feel safe?” or “How did the neighbors help make it feel welcome?”
Talk with your child about ways to welcome a new person, pet, or visitor: offering a kind greeting, making room, sharing a familiar activity, or asking what they need. You might set up a pretend cozy space for a stuffed animal together. Reinforce caring choices with words like, “You noticed what they needed,” “You helped someone feel safe,” or “Your kindness made room for a new friend.”
