Learning to Pause, Plan, and Work Safely
Taking time to check a plan can prevent problems
Benny is excited to finish his bridge quickly, but Fuzzi and Gram show him that a short pause can make a project safer and stronger. Children often need help balancing excitement with careful choices. As you read, ask, “What could Benny check before he starts?” or “How do you think slowing down helps the bridge?”
Practice a simple stop-and-plan routine before a building project, a climb, or a new activity: pause, look, ask an adult if needed, and make a safe plan together. Let your child help name the steps so they feel capable rather than corrected. Reinforce the habit with words like, “You stopped to think,” “You checked your plan,” or “You chose the safe way to build.”
