Making Space for Quiet Feelings and Rest
Children can learn to notice when they need a calm moment
Chloe’s quiet day reminds children that there is nothing wrong with needing a little less noise, activity, or conversation. A calm pause can help a child listen to their feelings and feel ready to rejoin the day in their own time. As you read, ask, “How do you think Chloe feels in the busy town?” or “What helps you feel calm when things are loud?”
Work together to name one or two cozy places your child can use for a quiet break, such as a reading corner, a soft chair, or a spot outside with a trusted adult. Offer the break without making it feel like a punishment. Gentle words like, “Would a quiet moment help?” or “I can sit with you while you rest,” show that their need for calm is welcome.
