Sharing a Campout With Respect and Responsibility
Good group plans make room for everyone’s needs
Gram is excited about his backyard campout, but he learns that fun shared experiences work best when everyone gets a say. Respecting quiet time and cleaning up together are ways to care for both friends and the space they are using. As you read, ask, “What choices should the campers make together?” or “How can Gram help the campsite stay comfortable for everyone?”
Plan a simple pretend or real campout together by giving each person a small choice, such as where to place a blanket, which story to read, or what quiet activity to do. Make cleanup part of the plan from the start, with a few easy jobs everyone can help complete. Reinforce cooperative choices with words like, “You made room for another idea,” “You noticed the quiet time,” or “You helped care for our campsite.”
