When children are excited about a project, they may want to rush straight to the finished result. Gram’s treehouse shows why pausing to listen, check the plan, and do one step at a time matters. Adults can help by naming the process: “First we look, then we listen, then we build,” so patience feels like an active skill rather than simply waiting.
Include children in safe, age-appropriate building tasks such as sorting pieces, holding a measuring tape, handing over a tool, or following a simple picture plan. Remind them to ask before using unfamiliar tools and to wait for an adult when something feels hard. Praise the habits that keep projects safe: “You followed the step,” “You listened carefully,” or “You asked before you tried that.”
