Simple hand tools and clear boundaries can support focus during activities
During craft time, Gram’s hands feel full of energy, and grabbing, tapping, and interrupting begins to affect the people around him. Fuzzi helps him find respectful ways to keep his hands occupied while still joining in. The story shows children that busy hands are normal and that they can learn helpful tools for using them safely and kindly. As you read, ask, “How did Gram’s hands affect craft time?” or “What helped him keep his hands busy respectfully?”
Before a seated activity, help your child choose a quiet hand option that fits the setting, such as holding a soft fidget, folding paper, squeezing their own hands together, or keeping one hand on their lap. Be clear about what items and people are not for touching, then practice the replacement behavior together. Reinforce their effort with words like, “You chose a respectful hand tool,” “You kept your hands to yourself,” or “You found a way to stay busy and kind.”
