Giving From the Heart by Noticing What Matters

Thoughtful gifts begin with paying attention to a friend

Fuzzi and Gram’s birthday plan reminds children that a meaningful gift does not have to be the biggest or fanciest one. Listening, remembering what a friend enjoys, and choosing something with care can make another person feel truly seen. As you read, ask, “What does Professor Hoo like?” or “How did Fuzzi and Gram learn what would make him happy?”

Help your child make a small, thoughtful surprise for someone they care about: a drawing, a favorite song, a kind note, or an offer to help. Before deciding, talk about what that person likes or needs. Encourage empathy with words like, “You remembered what matters to them,” “You chose that with care,” or “Your thoughtful gift showed how much you care.”
