Matching books to interests helps reading feel personal
Millie’s bookmobile shows that there is a story for every kind of reader. Fuzzi and Gram listen to what their friends enjoy, then help match each person with a book that sparks curiosity. As you read, ask, “What kind of story would you choose?” or “What clues could help us pick a book for a friend?”
When choosing books together, start with your child’s interests—animals, vehicles, mysteries, silly stories, or favorite characters—and let them help make the choice. Re-reading favorites is valuable, too; familiar stories build confidence and invite children to notice new details. Encourage their reading identity with words like, “You know what kinds of stories you enjoy,” “That book matches your interests,” or “Let’s discover what happens next together.”
