Naming Feelings and Making Room for Every Mood
Children learn that feelings can be noticed, shared, and accepted
On a cloudy day, Fuzzi and Gram invite their friends to notice and name the feelings they are carrying. By turning each mood into part of a colorful parade, they show children that happy, sad, worried, excited, and grumpy feelings all belong. As you read, ask, “What feeling did each friend name?” or “What color or decoration would match your feeling today?”
Try a quick feelings check-in together by asking, “What kind of weather is inside you today?” Your child might choose cloudy, sunny, stormy, windy, or something else, then draw, name, or act out the feeling. Let them know every answer is welcome while setting limits on unsafe behavior. Reinforce emotional awareness with words like, “You noticed your feeling,” “Thank you for telling me,” or “We can have this feeling and still choose a kind next step.”
