Creating Belonging Through Stories and Invitations
Making room for someone helps a community feel warmer
Fuzzi and Gram notice that the scarecrow seems left out and find a simple way to bring it into the garden community. Their thoughtful invitation gives children a model for including someone who may be new, quiet, or standing apart. As you read, ask, “How do Fuzzi and Gram help the scarecrow belong?” or “What story could you share to welcome someone?”
Encourage your child to practice invitations that make others feel included: “Do you want to join us?” “Would you like to tell a story?” or “There is room here.” You might create a family storytelling circle where each person adds one small part. Reinforce belonging with words like, “You made space for someone,” “Your invitation was kind,” or “You helped everyone feel part of the group.”
