Learning Where Fresh Food Comes From
Picking, washing, and sharing fruit builds healthy habits
Fuzzi and Gram discover the care that goes into serving fresh fruit, from picking it at the orchard to washing it before sharing it with others. Their day at the little stand helps children connect healthy snacks with the people and steps that bring food to the table. As you read, ask, “Why do you think the fruit needs to be washed?” or “What did Fuzzi and Gram do to help the neighbor?”
Invite your child to help with a simple fruit snack at home by rinsing produce, sorting it by color, or placing pieces into a bowl. Talk about food safety in a calm, practical way: wash hands first, rinse fruits and vegetables, and use a grown-up's help for cutting. Reinforce their helpfulness with words like, “You helped make our snack fresh and ready to share,” or “You followed safe steps in the kitchen.”
