Practicing Safe Choices in Everyday Places
Noticing safety clues helps children build confidence and awareness
Officer Otis’s scavenger hunt helps Fuzzi and Gram see that safe choices are all around them. Crosswalks, playground rules, and trusted helpers can give children useful cues as they move through their community. As you read, ask, “What safety clue did Fuzzi and Gram find?” or “What would be a safe choice in that place?”
Turn a familiar walk or outing into a simple safety-spotting game. Invite your child to point out crosswalks, sidewalks, helmets, or an adult helper, then briefly talk about what each one is for. Reinforce their observations with words like, “You noticed the safe place to cross,” or “That was a thoughtful choice to keep your body safe.”
