Building Smart Sun-Safety Habits

Simple preparation helps outdoor play stay more comfortable and safe

Fuzzi and Gram’s hat rescue is a fun reminder that a little preparation can make outdoor time more comfortable. Hats, shade, water, and sunscreen used as directed by the product label are useful parts of a family’s sun-safety routine. As you read, ask, “Who needed their sun hat?” or “What could we bring when we play outside?”

Before heading outside, make a small “sun-ready” routine together: choose a hat, fill a water bottle, and look for a shady place to rest. Give your child a simple job, such as carrying their hat or helping find shade. Reinforce the habit with words like, “You remembered what your body needs outside,” or “Let’s take a cool-down break in the shade.”
