Naming Big Excitement and Sharing It Kindly

All feelings are welcome, and children can learn safe ways to express them

Toby’s excitement grows so big that it begins to spill into the other friends’ play. Fuzzi helps him notice, name, and understand the feeling before finding a calmer way to share what he is excited about. The story reminds children that big positive feelings need support too. As you read, ask, “How did Toby’s excitement affect the game?” or “What helped him share his feeling more calmly?”

When your child is very excited, help them name what they notice in their body: fast words, wiggly movements, a loud voice, or a feeling that is too big to hold in. Then offer a simple calming choice, such as taking breaths, squeezing hands, hopping in place away from others, or sharing the news one person at a time. Reinforce emotional skills with words like, “You named your excitement,” “You found a calmer way to share,” or “Your feeling matters, and so do your friends’ bodies and space.”
