Listening With Care to Strengthen Connection

When children feel heard, they learn that their thoughts and feelings matter

The lanterns along Listening Lane glow whenever friends truly hear one another. As Fuzzi and Gram notice the lights, they practice looking at the speaker, waiting for a turn, and responding to what was said. The story helps children see listening as an active way to show care. As you read, ask, “What made the lantern light up?” or “How did Fuzzi and Gram show they were listening?”

Try a short listening game at home. Take turns sharing one small thought about your day while the listener practices facing the speaker, staying quiet until they are finished, and repeating one detail they heard. Keep it playful and brief. Reinforce listening with words like, “You waited until they finished,” “You remembered what they said,” or “You helped them feel heard.”
