Making Thoughtful Choices for Birds and the Park
Not every food is safe for wildlife to eat
Fuzzi and Gram learn that caring for birds means choosing food thoughtfully, not simply sharing whatever is left over. This story can start a conversation about how animals have different needs and why keeping the park clean protects them too. As you read, ask, “What do you think a bird might safely eat?” or “What should go into the compost instead?”
When you see birds outside, observe them from a respectful distance and talk about ways to care for their habitat: keep litter picked up, offer clean water when appropriate, and follow local guidance before feeding wildlife. At home, let your child help sort fruit and vegetable scraps for compost if you have it. Encourage stewardship with words like, “You made a safe choice for the birds,” “You helped keep their home clean,” or “You noticed what belongs in the compost.”
