Helping Children Practice Fire Safety with Confidence
Clear safety rules help children know what to do
Fire-safety lessons work best when they are simple, calm, and repeated often. Fuzzi and Gram’s visit to the station can start a family conversation about smoke alarms, listening to trusted adults, and leaving a building right away when an alarm sounds. Keep the message reassuring: alarms are loud because they are there to help keep everyone safe.
Practice a brief family plan: when an alarm sounds, stop what you are doing, walk outside with a grown-up, and meet at a familiar safe place. Remind children not to hide or go back inside for belongings. After practicing, praise their calm participation with phrases like, “You listened for the alarm,” “You walked safely,” or “You knew where to meet us.”
