Learning to Help by Listening Carefully

Understanding a job begins with paying attention to what is needed

Fuzzi visits several familiar places and learns that the most helpful first step is listening carefully. At the library, café, and market, she pays attention to each person’s request before she jumps in. The story helps children connect listening with practical problem-solving and caring cooperation. As you read, ask, “What did Fuzzi listen for?” or “How did listening help her know what to do?”

Give your child a small helping job at home, then invite them to listen to the whole request before getting started. For example, they might set napkins on the table, match clean socks, or return books to a shelf. Notice their effort with words like, “You listened before you helped,” “You understood what was needed,” or “Your careful help made the job easier.”
