Making Space So Everyone Can Belong

Inclusion begins by noticing who needs a place in the play

Molly loves her cozy playhouse, but when it gets crowded, she needs help noticing who has room and who may be left out. With Fuzzi and Gram, she learns that changing the space and the play plan can make everyone feel welcome. As you read, ask, “Who needed more room?” or “What did Molly do to make space for everyone?”

During play, help your child practice noticing the group: Who has a role? Who is waiting? Is there a way to change the setup so everyone can join? Offer simple phrases such as, “Let’s make room,” “What job would you like?” or “We can take turns inside.” Reinforce inclusive choices with words like, “You noticed someone needed space,” “You changed the plan so everyone could play,” or “You helped everyone belong.”
