Finding Connection Within Bedtime Boundaries

A cozy compromise can help children feel heard and ready to rest

Gram’s request for one more story is a familiar bedtime moment. Fuzzi shows that adults and children can acknowledge a wish while still keeping a calming routine in place. As you read, ask, “Why do you think Gram wants another story?” or “What could help him feel close and ready for sleep?”

Build a short, predictable bedtime rhythm that includes a connection moment: a favorite story, a cuddle, a song, or sharing one good thing from the day. When your child asks for more, offer a simple, warm choice such as one short page, one song, or saving the next story for tomorrow. Reassure them with words like, “I hear that you want more time,” “We can look forward to tomorrow’s story,” or “Our bedtime routine helps your body rest.”
