Caring for a garden helps children notice what living things need
Rosie’s rainy garden helps children see that plants need different kinds of care as the weather changes. Rain can be helpful, but very heavy weather may mean seedlings need protection, drainage, or a check-in afterward. As you read, ask, “What do you think the little plants need today?” or “How might the garden look different after the rain?”
If you have a garden, windowsill plant, or herb pot, invite your child to observe it before and after rain or watering. Notice the soil, leaves, and any puddles, then decide together whether it needs water, shade, or time to dry. Support their care and curiosity with words like, “You noticed what changed,” “You are helping this plant grow,” or “You made a thoughtful choice for the garden.”
