Building Early Literacy Through Community Storytelling
Letters, books, and shared roles bring a read-aloud to life
Fuzzi and Gram help get Story Square ready by sorting the things a lively read-aloud needs: books, letter pieces, and playful props. Their teamwork shows children that stories can be explored with words, objects, and imagination. As you read, ask, “What did Fuzzi and Gram sort?” or “Which prop would you choose for the story?”
Create a small family read-aloud at home. Let your child choose a book, gather a few safe household objects as props, and help arrange them in order before you begin. Pause occasionally to notice letters, predict what happens next, or act out a moment. Reinforce their effort with words like, “You organized our story tools,” “You noticed that letter,” or “Your idea helped tell the tale.”
