Discovering How Letters Belong in Alphabet Order
Searching for a missing letter makes alphabet knowledge meaningful
When one small letter slips away from the library display, Fuzzi and Gram use the shelves and signs around them to work out where it belongs. Their search helps children notice letter shapes, names, and alphabet order in a purposeful, playful way. As you read, ask, “Which letter is missing?” or “What letters come before and after it?”
Try a quick letter hunt with a few alphabet cards, magnetic letters, or letters written on paper. Remove one letter from a short row and invite your child to figure out which one is missing, then look for that letter in a book or on a sign. Reinforce their effort with words like, “You noticed the missing letter,” “You remembered its place,” or “You found that letter in the world around us.”
